Monsieur Cabinet

Here are a number of wordplay designs by Monsieur Cabinet, They are witty and clever, often making you read the words aloud before you 'get' it. I like their interaction with an audience, and they relate to the xmas cards I designed for Tag: Pac. I plan to bring more of this style of interactive design into my practice.

Volcom Zine

Volcom, the skateboarding company, publish a webzine every month filled with quirky illustrations based around skateboarding. The content is fun, and most of the pages rely on concept and message through illustration...not just 'nice' illustrations. I think the webzine has a good view of its target audience and this is why the Volcom webzine works.

Dig For Fire

'Dig For Fire' are a Sheffield based advertising and design company, the largest advertising agency outside of London. I am currently talking with the Senior Designer Simon Ransley about a possible work placement.

Here is the studio in Sheffield, it holds 80 employees across a range of professions from graphic designers to copywriters.

Dig For Fire are a digital led agency, but also do some print work:
Good conceptual design is apparent, and the message is the focal point. Something of which I persue in my own work.

Dig For Fire are a digital led agency: This is an area I want to develop my skills in, I feel digital is becoming the dominating media for design with more web accessible products being produced.

Use of concept in packaging

Here are some impressive package designs which have strong concepts and some humor behind them.

Line-space values constructed of lines which are spaced according to the line space in the book.

Paper packaging which zooms in to show the colour pixels, subtle yet relative.

the.

www.thinkofthe.com

the. is the official marketplace for amusing and eclectic wares designed by the. team. Mihoko Ouchi and Sherwood Forlee make up the.team.
I admire the. as they concentrate on a designs concept entirely. Function over form. I want to pursue this in my own work, incorporating message with concept.

Skype - YCN Winner 2008.

Here are last years winners of the YCN Skype brief.
This project is very minimal but instantly recognizable thanks to Skype's bright cyan,  the words relate to the use of video calls with Skype. Work is situated in context to a professional standard.

Jeep - Advertising

The car manufacturer 'Jeep' use ambient advertising to make their vehicles stand out from the mundane. These 'North & South' images incorporate relative images from the two regions and a Jeep literally bring them together. I plan to use this level of wit and conceptual advetising for my Skype direct mail.
